THE BILL BARN COAT IS HERE

BUILT FROM BIG MAN'S STORY

The Bill Barn Coat is named for Chi-ininii, "Big Man," the great-grandfather of our co-founder. Bill spent his life in machine shops, forests, and fields, doing the hard labor of providing for his family. This coat was built to be what his clothing was: not decoration, but an essential tool.

The shell is 14oz custom-woven Japanese selvedge denim, made for us by the artisan mill Nihon Menpu, whose textures and colors we fell for the moment we saw them at our first show in Japan. Every button carries the GINEW leaf, stamped from an actual leaf that fell from the white oak tree Amanda and I were married under, on a small farm in the Wisconsin countryside. Chosen to age the way Bill's own tools did: worn in, not worn out.

MADE TO ORDER, RIGHT HERE IN PORTLAND

Every single Bill Barn Coat is made to order, cut and sewn one at a time by Apparel Werks in Portland, Oregon. This isn't mass production. It's a small team, in one city, building something meant to carry your story the way Bill's coat carried his, for decades, not seasons.

Real people, real skill, real craft. Nothing about this coat is rushed or wasted.

FACING EAST

The lining is 32 oz un-napped wool, a rare weight almost no other brand still uses, woven by Pendleton® here in Oregon. Facing East, is a pattern created for us by the living legend Dyani White Hawk, a family friend whose creativity we've had the privilege of watching bloom for years. Her work has always moved us. Years later, it was an honor to have her bring that same vision to this coat's liner.

"Our sun rises in the east. The Facing East blanket acknowledges ways that Lakota, and other Indigenous people, honor, and express gratitude for the gift of each new day." — Dyani White Hawk
